- Feature Delivery & Migration: Shipped end-to-end chat features (replies, editing, status indicators) and migrated the core messaging module to a new project, refactoring the implementation to meet modern architectural standards.
- Infrastructure & Observability: Designed and built a unified logging system from scratch, replacing multiple legacy approaches and migrating the entire codebase to improve production debugging and monitoring.
- State Management & Architecture: Delivered a multi-identity switching system.
- Codebase Health & Tooling: Reduced build times via multiple dead-code cleanup passes and built internal developer utilities to streamline the development, debugging, and testing of new features.
Lead iOS Engineer
Speak is a fast-growing AI-powered language learning platform backed by the OpenAI Startup Fund, Accel, Founders Fund, and Khosla Ventures.
- Founding iOS engineer, responsible for building the entire iOS app from scratch.
- Built the iOS application from prototype to globally scaled production system used in multiple markets.
- Owned architecture, feature implementation, app stability, and long-term codebase direction.
- Implemented the vast majority of iOS features during the company’s first five years.
- Built complex UIKit-driven interfaces, animations, and UIKit/SwiftUI hybrid components.
- Set up core infrastructure: Firebase (RTDB, Firestore, Storage), analytics pipelines, A/B testing (Split.io), Crashlytics, Fastlane automation, Bitrise CI/CD, and TestFlight distribution.
- Collaborated daily with the CTO and CEO in the early years for product planning and technical strategy.
- As the company expanded across time zones, shifted focus primarily to feature development, engineering execution, and platform improvements.
- Led hiring & interviewing for iOS, Android, backend, and QA roles; onboarded new engineers.
- Coordinated API planning with backend and Android teams, ensuring alignment across platforms.
- Delivered consistently stable, polished releases with a strong emphasis on visual detail, UX consistency, and low bug rates.
